Evil Cats and Business Coaches

Posted in A Dog's World, Business Tips at 7:23 am by Nick the Border Collie

The evil cat is making fun of me looking for a business coach.

“Who do you think you are? You’re just a silly dog,” the evil cat meowed. I don’t know where he lives, but he likes to hang out in our yard, hiding up in a tree and meowing at my pack mates and I when we go out to do our business.

“How did you even know I was looking for a business coach?” I asked.

Maddie, my packmate, growled. “Let me at it.” She ran to the tree and jumped up on it.

The cat hissed and backed up a few steps. “Who do you think I am, a dog? I have two ears you know. I can hear what you’re asking the other animals.”

Recently, I had decided to start asking around for a business coach. I realized I needed a business coach after losing my steam about creating a business. I had wanted to get the word out about obedience classes being for humans, not dogs. I thought dogs would be beating down the door to drag their humans to obedience classes.

“Well, I think a business coach would help me,” I said.

The evil cat flattened his ears. “You’re too stupid to even have a business. Why would you need a business coach when you can’t even get a business off the ground.”

At this point, Michele pulled us inside the house.

“Don’t listen to that idiot cat,” Maddie said to me, as I walked next to her, my ears down. “You have a blog after all. That cat doesn’t. Now who’s smarter?”

PR Web Doesn’t Think I Blog!

Posted in A Dog's World at 5:41 pm by Nick the Border Collie

It came to my attention a couple of weeks ago that Michele neglected to send out a press release about my blog. I work hard on my blog and I can’t believe she forgot to promote it. (She gets so busy promoting her clients’ businesses sometimes she ends up neglecting the rest of us. I guess I ought to be grateful she doesn’t forget to feed me!)

Anyway, after quite a bit of nudging on my part, Michele finally got the press release posted on PRWeb.com (Michele does this a lot for her clients, she uses articles and press releases and PRWeb.com to drive lots of traffic to her Web site and her clients’ Web sites.)

That’s when it happened. PRWeb.com put a hold on my press release! And you know why? Because they said “since dogs can’t blog, there needs to be a sentence on there that explains it’s by Michele written from a dog’s perspective.”

In fact, an editor even called Michele the next day to talk to her about it. He said “I know most people won’t think a dog actually blogs, but just in case some people…” and than his voice trailed off. He couldn’t even say it.

I, however, can’t believe he doesn’t think I blog. I am such a hard worker for Michele, writing my blog and my column and reading about marketing and copywriting. What does he think I’m doing here anyway? Laying around on my big pillow? Chewing on my squeaky toy? Playing fetch? I play a very important role in Michele’s business.

So what’s so wrong with this press release anyway? Do they think it will start a rash of pet blogging around the world? Think of it, every dog, cat, guinea pig and parakeet could be blogging tomorrow, and where would that leave us? We might run out of space on the Internet.

The Critters Aren’t Helping

Posted in A Dog's World at 10:20 am by Nick the Border Collie

I decided to start asking around for a business coach.

I realized I needed a business coach after losing my steam about creating a business. I had wanted to get the word out about obedience classes being for humans, not dogs. I thought dogs would be beating down the door to drag their humans to obedience classes.

So I thought I’d start by asking the critters who lived around my house.

“Do you know where to find a business coach?” I asked the baby praying mantis who lives on my porch.

“I’m hungry,” said the baby praying mantis.

“I probably could eat too, but I just had my breakfast,” I said.

The baby praying mantis cocked its head. “Can you eat business coaches?”

I thought about that. “No, I don’t think you’re supposed to eat them. You’re supposed to talk to them.”

The baby praying mantis started creeping away. “Well, what good is that? I’m hungry, not lonely.”

I then found a lizard on the rocks. “Do you know where I could find a business coach?”

“What do I look like, the yellow pages for the animal kingdom?” the lizard snapped and ran off. (Lizards are so rude. I probably should have known better than to ask one.)

Next I asked a hummingbird sitting on the feeder. “Do you know where I could find a business coach?”

The hummingbird looked down at me. “What is that, a trick question? You better not want to steal my food.”

“I don’t want to steal your food, I have my own food. Dog food. You eat hummingbird food. All I want to know is if you know where I could find a business coach.”

The hummingbird puffed up its chest. “Leave my food alone.”

This might be harder than I thought.
