“So where do I find a business coach?” I asked Maddie, my packmate.
Maddie sniffed. “Why do you want a business coach?”
“I want to get my steam back.”
Maddie cocked her head. “What are you talking about?”
I explained I had lost my steam about creating a business. I had wanted to get the word out about obedience classes being for humans, not dogs. I thought dogs would be beating down the door to drag their humans to obedience classes.
“So who do you know who has a business coach?” Maddie asked.
“Well, Michele of course,” I said.
“And?” Maddie said.
I was confused. “And what?”
Maddie sighed. “Do I need to do everything? How would Michele find a business coach?”
I thought about it. “Ask around maybe? Find people who have one and ask for recommendations?”
“Then why don’t you do that?”
I thought about that. “I guess I could.”
Maddie picked up her bone and started to trot away. “And you’re the one with the column.”

I decided to go talk to Ralph. Ralph is my friend who lives in the boulders around my house. I can’t see him except for his eyes. He doesn’t always come out to talk to me, but he did today.
“How do I get my steam back?” I asked him.
Ralph blinked slowly. “Isn’t it hot enough? We’re in the Arizona desert in the middle of summer, what do you need steam for?”
I explained I had lost my steam about creating a business. I had wanted to get the word out about obedience classes being for humans, not dogs. I thought dogs would be beating down the door to drag their humans to obedience classes.
“But I hadn’t done anything about it, and now I’m depressed about losing my steam,” I said.
Ralph blinked slowly. “What would a human do?”
I cocked my head. “I don’t know what a human would do.”
“What would Michele do?”
I thought about this. “Probably call her business coach.”
Ralph’s eyes narrowed. “Business coach? How do you coach businesses? Is there a playbook involved? Who is your opponent? Other business owners? How do you keep score?”
“I don’t think that’s what a business coach does,” I said. “Michele just talks to her a lot.”
Ralph blinked again and his eyes started disappear into the darkness. “Maybe you need to call a business coach too.”
