Michele told me I had to keep my column short today because she was so long-winded in her Note from Michele. Like what I have to say isn’t as important. Humph. (But I still gave her kiss. Life’s too short to hold a grudge. And besides, she’s in charge of my dinner.)
So, I have a new member of the Michele PW team to welcome. It’s Kabuki the badger. I’ll have an interview with her next time. She’s going to be the new mascot. So stay tuned!
Wuff,
Nick, the border collie

Michele took us (me and Roxie and Maddie, my pack mates) outside the other day. She had just gotten home from a long trip and I was very happy to see her. She always gets a nice dog sitter to stay with us, but it’s just not the same as being with her.
So we were outside, minding our own business, and the evil cat started meowing.
“You dogs are so stupid. You can’t even get up in a tree if you want to,” the cat said.
We immediately went running to the tree.
“Yeah, but eventually you’ll have to come out of the tree,” Maddie said. “And then what?”
The cat shifted. “How do you know if I’ll have to get out of the tree? Maybe I’ll stay here forever.”
“And not eat? Or drink? I bet you’re getting mighty hungry up there,” Maddie said.
“Hush,” I said to Maddie. I was still trying to make friends with the cat. “Look,” I said to the cat. “Why don’t you come down and meet us. We just want to be friends. Maybe we can all play together.”
Maddie licked her chops. “Oh yes, we want to be friends all right.” I glared at Maddie.
The cat flicked his tail. “Why should I put myself out and come down from the tree?”
“Because it’s more fun to play on the ground,” I said.
The cat shrugged. “I don’t think so. I think it’s more fun to play in a tree. And if you were a cat and the more superior species, you could come up into the tree rather than want me to move.”
By this time Michele had a hold of us and was dragging us back into the house. Sometimes it’s really hard to have fun.
“I don’t understand why the cat is so mean,” I said to Maddie.
“It’s a stupid cat,” Maddie growled. “What do you expect?”
